 Our History
MBO was founded in 1999 by Bradley J. Morse M.D. and Andrew Urquhart M.D.  These two partners wanted to provide high quality orthopedic care with a very personal touch.  A new office was opened in February of 2000 in the Navarre Medical Plaza next to St. Charles Hospital.  A highly skilled and experienced staff from the old practice followed Drs. Morse and Urquhart into their new venture.

The new practice was immediately successful with both old patients and new patients being cared for at several local hospitals in the Toledo, Oregon, and Maumee areas.  Drs Morse and Urquhart, in addition to their regular patients, took on the responsibilities of team physicians for The Toledo Storm hockey team.  Several key players required surgery during the season and were returned to play in time to join the team in post-season play.

An unbelievable once in a lifetime opportunity arose in late 2000 for Dr. Urquhart.  He was offered a position at a leading regional orthopedic program at The University of Michigan as the chief of adult lower limb reconstructive surgery.  He accepted and left MBO in December of 2000.  While Dr. Morse and staff were sad to see him leave for personal reasons, they were all glad for his professional advancement.

Dr. Morse adapted to the sudden loss of a partner and friend and has been remarkably busy while maintaining the high level of quality care that has become a hallmark of Maumee Bay Orthopedics.
Dr. Morse was appointed/elected Chief of the Orthopedic Section at St. Charles Hospital and served in that capacity for several years.  A new hospital came on line in 2001, also in the Oregon area.  As a part of the Promedica Health Care System, Bay Park Community Hospital offered another location to serve the growing patient base of MBO.

In 2002, Dr. Morse joined forces with twenty other top notch orthopedic surgeons to form The Orthopedic Network, Inc.  The mission statement of T.O.N.I. includes high quality patient care and advancement of new orthopedic procedures.  At the same time Dr. Morse joined a larger group of doctors called Northwest Ohio Specialists who organized to help streamline business operations of practices and relieve some of the day to day pressures on individual practices.

In order to make our services more available and convenient to our patients Dr. Morse opened a Perrysburg office, at Three Meadows Plaza.  As time went on, ancillary services were added to our main location.  Physical Therapy through Heartland Therapy has made receiving physical therapy very easy and convenient since it is provided in our main office at the same time Dr. Morse is seeing patients.  MBO has also secured arrangements with three MRI centers to facilitate the timely studies which are very helpful in diagnosing certain orthopedic problems.

Several independent doctors have made MBO home for some of their patients.  Dr. Zavela, an anesthesiologist who specializes in acupuncture treatment, utilizes MBO office space.  Dr. Larry Kale specializes in Occupational Therapy and Independent Medical Examinations.  He sees patients weekly in the MBO office space.  Toledo Ear Nose Throat shared office space with MBO for about a year while waiting the preparation of their space at St. Charles Hospital.

And most recently, Dr. David Beeks, an orthopedic surgeon, who is Fellowship trained in Spinal Surgery recently moved his practice from Tennessee to space in Maumee Bay Orthopedics.

The staff of MBO consists of an RN, two certified surgical techs, two X-ray techs and several billing and insurance persons as well as receptionists, file clerks, and surgery schedulers.
